Loch Ness Productions Acquires Albedo Fulldome Catalog

Loch Ness Productions has acquired from Albedo Fulldome of Barcelona, Spain, the exclusive ownership and distribution rights of their catalog of shows, including: "Astronomy: 3000 Years of Stargazing", "The Birth of the Solar System", "Chronicle of a Journey to Earth", "Moles: What Is Out There", and "Extrasolar Planets - Discovering New Worlds". This move assures these popular shows' continued availability in the future. Albedo closed for business 15 July 2020.

Since 2011, Loch Ness Productions has distributed hundreds of Albedo's shows world-wide, with traditional long-term licenses for display in planetarium fulldome theaters; short-term rentals to domes through its streaming service FULLDOME OnDemand; and directly to consumers through its VR Dome Theater service.

"Our association with Albedo Fulldome was a long and very respectful one," said Carolyn Collins Petersen, CEO of Loch Ness Productions. She noted LNP and Albedo began working together after meeting its owner, Sergio Lopez Borgonoz, at the Jena Fulldome Festival in Germany. "Both our companies presented shows at the festival," she said. "We very much appreciated Sergio's approach to fulldome shows, and he was quite open to working with us on new English translations of his work."

Sergio's death a few years ago was a tragic loss to the profession. "While we continued to work with Albedo's representative, Alexander Zaragoza, this year Sergio's remaining family decided to retire and close the business. Alexander approached us about acquiring the rights to the show catalog," said Carolyn. "We consider it a wonderful tribute to Sergio that we can continue bringing his work to fulldome theaters."

With the acquisition, Loch Ness Productions continues its tradition of supplying quality content for dome theaters. "We look forward to working with theaters that may have had licenses with the now-closed Albedo Fulldome," said LNP President Mark C. Petersen, "We also hope to work with former Albedo resellers in other countries who may be interested in continuing their distribution efforts with these popular shows."
